n. (pl. -ies) 1 commonness of occurrence. 2 a the state of being frequent; frequent occurrence. b the process of being repeated at short intervals. 3 Physics the rate of recurrence of a vibration, oscillation, cycle, etc.; the number of repetitions in a given time, esp. per second. Usage Abbr.: f. 4 Statistics the ratio of the number of actual to possible occurrences of an event. Phrases and idioms frequency band Electronics = BAND(1) 3a. frequency distribution Statistics a measurement of the frequency of occurrence of the values of a variable. frequency modulation Electronics a modulation in which the frequency of the carrier wave is varied.
